AWESOME Sink and Coupons in Satisfactory
How sink points convert to coupons, why each coupon costs more than the last, what cannot be sunk, and which items are actually worth feeding in.
The AWESOME Sink turns surplus into coupons, and it is the correct destination for every overflow line in your factory. A few mechanics decide whether it is worth optimising or just worth having.
The basics
Feed items in, get points based on the item’s value and complexity, spend accumulated points on FICSIT Coupons, spend coupons in the AWESOME Shop.
Three properties shape how you build around it:
It draws 30 MW while working and nothing while idle. An overflow sink that rarely receives anything costs you almost nothing.
Maximum throughput is 1,200 items/min — the speed of a Mk.6 belt, since it consumes as fast as the belt supplies.
Points and coupons are shared across all sinks, and they survive dismantling. Build as many as you like anywhere; they draw on one pool. Unclaimed coupons and accumulated points are retained even if you remove every sink you own.
That last point matters for layout: you do not need one central sink. Put one at the end of each overflow line and print coupons from whichever is nearest.
Each coupon costs more than the last
This is the mechanic that decides whether coupon farming is worth pursuing.
Coupon cost escalates with each one printed. The first few are cheap; by the time you have printed a few dozen, each additional coupon costs substantially more points than the one before.
The practical consequence: coupons are not a resource you can grind linearly. Doubling sink throughput does not double your coupon rate over time, because the cost curve outruns you. Feeding surplus in continuously is worthwhile; building a dedicated factory to farm coupons hits diminishing returns quickly.
Point values vary enormously
Sink points scale roughly with production complexity, and the spread is dramatic:

The implication is direct: sinking raw or low-tier items is nearly pointless. A belt of Iron Rods generates a trickle. A handful of late-game assembled parts generates more than hours of low-tier throughput.
The sink is at its best consuming surplus of complex parts rather than serving as a dump for raw ore you over-extracted.
What cannot be sunk
Feeding a disallowed item in does not simply fail. It clogs the input, which stops the sink accepting anything else until you clear it.
The categories that cannot go in:
- Radioactive items — Uranium Waste, Plutonium Waste, Encased Plutonium Cells and the rest of that chain
- Power Slugs of all three colours
- Consumables such as Beryl Nuts, Bacon Agarics and Paleberries — though Medicinal Inhalers can be sunk
- FICSIT Coupons themselves
- Various special and unobtainable items
The radioactive exclusion has real consequences, because nuclear waste is exactly the kind of surplus you would want to dispose of. There is no disposal route for it; storage or the plutonium chain are the only options.
If your sink stops working for no obvious reason, a clogged input from a disallowed item is the first thing to check.
What coupons actually buy
The AWESOME Shop sells cosmetics for the most part — paint finishes, patterns, statues, decorative buildings and signs. None of it affects production.
A few entries are genuinely practical: customiser materials and patterns that make colour-coding your factory easier, and decorative items that double as landmarks in a large base.
That mix is worth knowing before deciding how much effort the sink deserves. If you enjoy making a factory look deliberate, coupons fund that directly. If you only care about throughput, the sink is a pressure valve and the coupons are incidental.
The overflow pattern, in detail
The arrangement that gets the most value with the least attention:
On each production line, one Smart Splitter with an output set to Overflow, feeding a belt toward a sink.
Merge those overflow belts rather than building a sink per line. Points are shared anyway, and one sink fed by several lines is fewer buildings drawing power.
Put the sink somewhere you pass, because coupons are printed at the building.
Do not put a storage container between the overflow and the sink unless you actually want to reclaim the surplus later. A container there fills up and then the overflow stalls anyway.
Alien DNA Capsules are tracked separately
Alien DNA Capsules can be sunk, and their points are tracked in a separate pool with their own coupon cost curve. This is a distinct progression rather than a bonus to your main total, so do not expect capsules to accelerate normal coupon printing.
Is it worth optimising?
Modestly. The sink is genuinely useful as a pressure valve on every overflow line, and the coupons buy pleasant cosmetics plus a few practical items.
But the escalating cost means a dedicated point farm stops paying off well before most people expect. The realistic recommendation: wire sinks into your overflow lines everywhere, feed them complex surplus rather than raw materials, and treat coupons as a by-product rather than a goal.
Farming points deliberately
If you do decide to chase coupons, the efficient approach is not more throughput but better items.
Because points scale with complexity, the best point-per-machine ratio comes from sinking something several steps up a production chain rather than the raw output of a miner. A line producing an expensive assembled part and dumping the surplus into a sink generates more points per minute than a far larger line of low-tier goods.
The other consideration is what you are giving up. Sinking a Heavy Modular Frame converts a part you might need into coupons you probably do not. Sinking genuine surplus costs you nothing; sinking things you would otherwise use is trading production for cosmetics.
The balanced position most players settle on: overflow lines feed the sink, and nothing is produced specifically for it.
Common mistakes
Sinking raw ore or low-tier parts. Four points per Iron Rod against hundreds of thousands for a late-game part.
Building a dedicated coupon farm. The cost curve outruns throughput increases.
Feeding disallowed items in. It clogs the input and stops the sink entirely.
Expecting to dispose of nuclear waste. Radioactive items cannot be sunk at all.
Building one central sink. Points are shared across all of them; put one at the end of each overflow line instead.
